Strike cripples life in Kashmir for 5th day
Srinagar, Aug 8 (UNI) Life in the Kashmir valley was affected for the fifth succesive day today after the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) called for a general strike to protest the ongoing economic blockade and attack on Muslims and Kashmiri drivers in Jammu.
Shops and other business establishments remained closed in the summer capital, its adjoining areas and almost all district headquarters in the Kashmir valley.
The transport was exempted in view of following Friday of Meraj-un-Nabi, fewer vehicles were plying on the routes.
Majority passenger buses and other vehicles were plying on Hazratbal shrine, housing the holy relic of Prophet Mohammad, where a big congregation would be held.
School, colleges and other educational institutions remained closed due to the following Friday holiday.
Reports of strike were received from other district and tehsil headquarters of the Kashmir valley.
