Madikeri, Aug 8: The unscientific norms imposed by the State Secondary Education Board have agitated the high school teachers in Kodagu district and have decided to boycott classes on Tuesday, Aug 12 to protest.

District Teachers Association President K K Manjunath, said the teachers had submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner in this regard and urged him to change the new pattern.

Under the new system teachers and students were overburdened with too many tests and home works. The students were not given enough time to study to write tests. At times they are give two three tests to write in a day and also home works that had to be completed by next morning.

He said under 'Parihara Bhodane' scheme the 10th standard students were supposed to attend a special class once a week under this programme in the mornings. Class eight and nine students were given special classes under 'Sethu Banda' programme. If they earn lower grades, they would be made to study again.

Kodagu is a Malnad area where schools cannot be approached with ease. Fewer busses, long distances, heavy rain and bad whether were turning the life miserable for them the education minister should look into the issue and bring suitable changes in the system, he demanded.
