Police officer suspended for deleriction of duty

Baripada, Aug 08 (UNI) An officer-in-charge of a police station was placed under suspension while another officer was shifted for their failure to give protection to a BJB MP from the wrath of the JMM activists.

Mayurbhanj Superintendent of Police Dayal Gangwar today suspended Officer-in-Charge of the Rairangpur police station Surendra Nath Das and withdrew Rairangpur Circle Inspector of Police Pravakar Patnaik for dereliction in duty.

The SP took the step in the wake of alleged laxity in taking action against the JMM activists, who had obstructed the vehicle of BJP Rajya Sabha MP Bhagirathi Majhi in front of the Rairangpur Rural Police station on Wednesday last, sources added.

At least nine platoons of Armed police Reserve and the Orissa State Armed Police (OSAP) had been deployed at Rairangpur to diffuse the tension and prevent any confrontation between JMM and BJP activists following the incident.

The District Magistrate and the SP were camping at Rairangpur.

Meanwhile, three JMM activists had been arrested at Rairangpur for their alleged involvement in the confrontation with the BJB MP.

The JMM activists today staged a demonstration at Rairangpur, demanding action against BJP leaders on the strength of a counter FIR lodged by them.
