Benefit small growers with your strategy: NEC Member
Itanagar, Aug 8: In an attempt to alleviate poverty, North East Council (NEC) member P P Srivastav has urged the Arunachal Pradesh Forest Corporation Limited (APFCL) to benefit the small growers.
Addressing a meeting of APFCL officials on Friday, Aug 8, Mr Srivastav suggested that the corporation should be a facilitator to encourage small growers, particularly those cultivating land below two hectares, to take up rubber plantation for economic benefit.
He also suggested that the state, rich in herbal and medicinal plants, could offer ample scope for their commercial cultivation as herbal medicines were gaining popularity because, unlike allopathic medicines, they have no side effects.
Appreciating the APCFL, Mr Srivastav said encouragement should be given to those living in the Below Poverty Line category so that the gap between the haves and have-nots was reduced.
He also assured all possible assistance to APFCL managing director G N Sinha in achieving the goal and asked him to submit a project report on cultivation of rubber and medicinal and aromatic plants.
