Orissa govt hikes duty allowance of Home Guards
Bhubaneswar, Aug 8 (UNI) Over 15,000 Home Guards, who worked as an auxiliary to the police force in Orissa, will now receive a hike in the duty call-up allowances.
The state government has decided to enhance the allowance from the existing Rs 75 to Rs 90, with effect from August 5, for which the government would spend an additional amount of more than 5 crore every year.
Official sources said the decision to hike the allowance was taken, considering the important role played by the Home Guards in the state as an auxiliary to Police force in maintaining law and order.
The Home Guards were treated as a voluntary workers to maintain law and order alongwith the policemen.
The Home Guards were also deployed at various jails, sub-jails and fire stations to augment the shortfall of jail wardens and firemen.
