Meeting on Metabolic Surgery tomorrow
Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 8(UNI) The Asian consensus meeting on Metabolic Surgery (ACMOMS) will be held at Kovalam, near here, tomorrow.
About 20 leading doctors from Asian countries, including Japan, Malaysia, China and Philippines would be participating in the one-day meeting, organised by Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, a pioneer in metabolic surgery in the country from Mumbai, a press release here said.
The objective of the meeting, claimed to be the first in the country, is to set culturally, geographically and genetically relevant standards for the management of obesity and metabolic syndrome, identify the usefulness of BMI (Body /mass index) as criteria for identification of obesity in Asian population, identify waist circumference or waist hip ratio as a criteria for obesity in the Asian population and to set parameters to identify visceral or central obesity versus truncil obesity, the release said.
Several presentations would be made by the participants. In the end, the members would vote for a new set of guidelines and in the recommendations defining the BMI/Waist criteria in the Asian population, it added.
