Kerala HC comes to rescue of mother, four daughters
Kochi, Aug 8 (UNI) The Kerala high court today directed the various departments of the state government to furnish necessary help by way of medical and food aid to Janu, a Kozhikode resident, and her four daughters who are living in penury.
Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan directed that the aid be given within five days and a status report filed in the court on the implementation of the court's order.
The high court took up the case suo motu after a local television channel reported the plight of Janu and her four daughters, two of whom also needed psychiatric treatment.
The Kerala State Legal Services Authrity had also reported to the high court that the news item was genuine.
According to the television report, Janu's husband had committed suicide more than 20 years ago and she was struggling to run her family with the aid of one daughter, who was earning a mere Rs 600 per month as a telephone booth attendant.
