Intervene in Kashmir crisis, Mirwaiz to UN secretary-general

Srinagar, Aug 8 (UNI) Seeking United Nations (UN) intervention in the Kashmir issue, the moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) chief Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq today said economic blockade has put the lives of people living in the valley and other Muslim-dominated areas in the Jammu region in danger.

In a memorandum to UN Secretary-General Ban-Ki-moon, Mirwaiz Omar said the world body is still the responsible global forum monitoring the developments in Jammu and Kashmir.

Mirwaiz Omar said the extremists and ultras of these areas have literally enforced economic blockade and trade embargo under which Kashmir is languishing and suffering to such an extent that due to scarcity of life-saving medications patients of Kashmir valley including Kishtiwar, Badarwah, Rajouri, Poonch have almost become disillusioned.

The memorandum said their hope is giving way to despair and despondency. Most of them will die for want of medicare if the economic blockade does not come to an end.

He said in such an adverse and precarious situation, in order to avoid a major human catastrophe and calamity, All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has decided to spearhead a cross Line of Control (LOC) campaign to esure trade links between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad.
