Indigenous heritage needs to be protected: Lakhera
Aizawl, Aug 8 (UNI) Emphasising the need to protect the rich indigenous heritage of Mizoram, Governor M M Lakhera today urged the people to maintain its scantity.
Addressing the International Day of Indigenous People here at Vanapa Hall, Mr Lakhera said one of the most important objective of the UN declaration on the rights of the indigenous people is to coordinate the efforts to ensure education and social, cultural, economic and environmental protection of the indigenous people.
'' The biggest problem the indigenous people are facing is conflict between development and cultural heritage,'' he said adding the two must be balanced.
The Indigenous Day was observed here by Zo Re-unification Organisation whose main objective is to unite Mizo ethnic tribes across the region, including Myanmar and Bangladesh.
