Vijayawada, Aug 8 (UNI) After the continuous unrest and of pitched battles by the rival groups Wynchpet area here followig the marriage of a couple of different communities on Monday last, the Friday prayers by Muslim brethern went off peacefully today.
Police sources told UNI that the prohibitory order under section 144 would remain in force for a couple of days more and asked the people through public address system not to move in groups in the area.
Police pickets were also posted at the vulnarable points to prevent any further clashes. The area was guarded with heavy police forces since the last two days.
Trouble began after Malla Rajesh, alias Nalla, an autorickshow driver, married Shabana Begum.
While the boy's parents reportedly had no objection to the marriage, the girl's side alleged that the boy misled and married her against her wishes.
Provocative remarks made by some people from both the sides sparked off the clashes.
City police commissioner K V R Reddy said the police counselled youth not to spoil their life by indulging in unlawful activities.
He said the police were sealing the borders to the troube prone area so that outsiders would not enter and create trouble, harming the social fabric and harmony in the area.
