Port Blair, Aug 8 (UNI) The Congress unit of Andaman and Nicobar Islands today demanded restoration of wheat quota for the remote islands, which was reduced by the Centre India recently.
The president of Andaman's Congress unit had also written a letter to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and requested him to do the needful.
''We have a mixed culture in these islands and people from every corner of India reside in Andaman. Due to reduction of government quota North Indians are finding it very difficult to meet their day to day requirements,'' Kuldeep Rai Sharma, president of Andaman's Congress unit, wrote in his letter.
Sharma further requested the agriculture minister to direct the concerned authorities particularly the Food Corporation of India to dispatch the full quantity of wheat for Andaman.
''We have received complaints from the public and are trying in all possible way to address this issue,'' Sharma told UNI today.
