Chief Sec and DGPs meet to tackle terrorism begins
New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) The meeting of Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police of all states to deliberate and formulate a strategy to combat the menace of terrorism began here today.
Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta will chair the day-long meeting convened by the Home Ministry in view of the recent blast in Bangalore and Ahmedadad which claimed more than 50 lives.
A home ministry spokesman said,''Some deliberate and planned incidents have occurred recently in different parts of the country, leading to loss of life and a sense of panic among the people.'' ''Prima facie, these appear to be the handiwork of certain terrorist groups with support from some local elements which have selected soft targets and used explosives with intent to cause maximum damage.'' The meeting is expected to carry forward the ongoing consultation process regarding internal security issues between the Central and State Governments.
It will exchange ideas on preventive and precautionary measures to address potential threats to internal and national security arising from such terror incidents.
The meeting wil also deliberate on issues like awareness building, community cooperation and participation, coordination in and strengthening of intelligence, urban and metro policing systems and process of investigation and prosecution besides other relevant issues.
