Kolkata, Aug 8(UNI) CPI(M) patriarch Jyoti Basu today welcomed Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee's willingness to talk to the Tatas to find a solution to the problem over the small car project at Singur.
'' It is welcome that Mamata Banerjee has agreed to hold talks with the Tatas. The project cannot be blocked. Let her say at a discussion whatever she has to say. The Tatas also will not go,'' he told reporters after attending the party's state secretariat meeting.
In reply to a question on whether the state Government would initiate the dialogue, Mr Basu said a special compensation package could be worked out for the land losers.
Ms Banerjee, who had been demanding that 400 acres of the acquired land of Singur be returned to the farmers, said yesterday that she was ready for dialogues with the Tatas. The Tatas also issued a press statement saying the company was not averse to holding talks with anyone.
