Security beefed up outside Chinese Embassy; Tibetans protest
New Delhi, Aug 7 (UNI) Even as the Olympic Games kick off in Beijing tomorrow, security outside the Chinese Embassy here was tightened to ward off any protests from Tibetans.
Cautious after the large scale protests by Tibetans during the Olympic torch relay in the city in April, the Delhi police heightened the security outside the Chinese Embassy as a precautionary measure, sources said.
The increased security came even as the city witnessed a huge march by Tibetans in the Capital city to protest the Beijing Olympic.
Carrying Tibetan flags and joined by monks, the protesters shouted Say no to Beijing Olympics and No Olympics in China as they assembled at the Jantar Mantar.
A huge police 'bandobast' was witnessed at the protest site with over 100 police and paramilitary troops deployed at the venue with fire extinguishers, blankets and buckets of water amid fears that some protesters may set themselves on fire.
