Officers should see that benefits reaches the poor: Bharathlal Meena

Madikeri Aug 7 (UNI) The Karnataka Social Welfare Secretary Bharathlal Meena has directed the officials to educate people about various welfare schemes and see that the benefits reaches the poor and needy.

Addressing the officials here yesterday, he insisted that the district and taluk level officials should first know the details of schemes and implement them effectively.

Mr Bharatlal held the meeting with a difference. He began his talk by asking the officers what Social Welfare is. He said that he would not like to deliver a lengthy talk but would like to hold the meeting in the form of a workshop.

Stating that the officials should be the motivating forces, he urged them to organise contact programmes in rural areas from this August 15.

He regretted saying that the country is still lagging behind in achieving literacy whereas the countries getting independence after India have achieved 100 per cent result. India has achieved only 78 per cent literacy and the education department and teachers should strive hard to cross this figure. There is a need to provide quality education and education is the main source for a successful society, Deputy Commissioner K R Niranjan regretted that Kodagu District which was in 3rd place in achievement during 1991 and was pushed to 4th place in 2001 and it is further down at present. He asked the under officers to keep in touch with all the departments and work in unison to achieve the targets. Three groups of officials were formed to tackle situations in the district and achieve results.
