Nursing student missing, students resort to indefinite strike

Berhampur, Aug 7 (UNI) Students of a nursing college here today resorted to an indefinite strike demanding that a third year student, who went missing from the hostel yesterday, be recovered.

The students alleged that one Itirekha from Bhabanipatna, left the Nursing College Hostel after she came to know that she had failed in the third year examination. She has been missing since.

At least seven out of 19 students have failed in the examination and the students alleged that Itirekha was failed intentionally and pointed the finger towards Hostel Warden for this sorrow affair.

Itirekha sent an SMS to one of her room mates stating that she would not return and advised her not to look for her.

She further said she did not want to waste her parents' money.

Her friend immediately rang her up but failed to contact her.

Itirekha, sources said, left her hostel room after making a last call to her mother at around 2100 hours saying that she was going to the DTP Centre and then switched off her mobile set.

The students started looking for her after the worried mother called up Swapna Samuel,her room mate. The matter was also communicated to the college principal.

Agitated over the alleged inaction of the principal, the students even gheraoed him and demanded that an FIR be registered.

Police said they were yet to trace Itirekha while the students accused them and the college authority of not showing enough seriousness.
