New Delhi, Aug 7 (UNI) Four Left Parties today jointly urged the Government to start the monsoon session of Parliament as planned earlier.

The four parties -- the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM), Communist Party of India (CPI), All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) -- in a joint statement issued here alleged that the Manmohan Singh Government is afraid of facing Parliament.

Earlier, on July the Government had announced that the Monsoon session of Parliament will be held from August 11 to September 5, apart from the two-day special session for the trust vote.

The Parliament session has not only been not convened on August 11 but efforts are on to do away with the monsoon session altogether. The reason is clear. After having manipulated a majority by foul means, the Government is not confident of facing Parliament where its majority will be in question the left parties said.

Further, the Prime Minister and the Congress leadership want to avoid Parliament till the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) process is over. Failure to maintain its majority in Parliament before that would jeoparadize the nuclear deal with the US. All this shows contempt for Parliament and wilful disregard for democratic norms, the statement added.
