Kolkata's Chinese gear up for Beijing Olympics
Kolkata, Aug 7 : Chinese residing in Kolkata's China Town are all geared up to celebrate the opening day of the Beijing Olympics.
The migrant Chinese said they were happy that China is hosting the Olympic Games and planned to celebrate the event.
Though most of them have never visited China, they are excited about the opening day, which falls on Friday.
The President of Indian Chinese Association, Paul Chung, expressed joy and said that it was truly a matter pride for the Chinese and other Asians across the globe.
"We rejoice that we got the opportunity. Of course, we hope it will be a very grand affair and with it, we hope this game will bring peace, prosperity and hope to all the Asian people, " said Paul. Young Chinese said they are very excited and have organized dragon dances and small parties in several restaurants in the locality.
"We as the Chinese community, are really excited about it as the Olympics after a very long time is being held in Beijing. Since our ancestors are from there, we would hope to see more about it," said Abastin Lee, a Chinese migrant.
The Chinese government wants the 2000 Olympics to be an unblemished celebration of national prosperity and harmony, but international protests over Tibet have shadowed the games preparations and international torch relay.
