Jamnagar, Aug 7 (UNI) Police claimed to have unearthed a major hawala racket in the city and detained three people in this connection.
They have also seized Rs 30 lakh from them.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted Malade Chavada at Jamnagar-Khambhaliya bypass when he was going to Khambhaliya on his motorcyle yesterday. During the search, the police found a bag containing Rs 30 lakh in his possession. During interrogation, Chavada revealed that he was going to deliver the amount to one Sajan Barai of Khambhaliya town.
Police later detained Sajan and his father Pitha Barai.
The trio told police that the amount had come from Dubai via hawala.
During one year of their operation, they had received and delivered around Rs 10 crore.
Police have informed FEMA (Foreign Exchange Mangament Act) and Income Tax authorities and they have already begun their investigations.
Jamnagar Superintendent of Police Mr Jongatiya has ruled out any terror or underworld link to the hawala racket.
