Kakinada, Aug 7 (UNI) The Godavari river is in spate and has affected at least four villages in Devipatnam mandal.
According to District Revenue Officer Mohana Raju, floodwater has entered the Tuyyeru village and affected five thousand people.
The district administration has kept ready four country boats to shift the villagers to safety in case of emergency.
Four paramedical troups with medical officers have been sent to Kondamodalu, Manturu and Dandangi villages to attend to emergencies.
The DRO said essential commodities were kept ready with the Girijan cooperative society and there is no shortage of food grains.
The Godavari river level was steady at 12.70 feet at Dowlesweram this evening and likely to recede by midnight.
He has appealed to the people not get panicky over the situation as the floods are receding. He said 55 houses were totally damaged and another seventeen houses partially affected due to rain and floods in the district and the total damage is estimated at Rs.11.95 lakhs.
