London, Aug 7 : She was expecting silk sheets and champagne at the hotel but new bride Pamela Morris' wedding night worked out rather differently when she ended up spending it - and the next four months - in jail.

Ms Morris wed hubby John, 29, in a registry service in April this year.

However, things took a turn for the worse when the couple, who also had a two-year-old girl Dionne with John, reached their hotel.

As it turned out, a comment by a local woman commented on Pam's dress at a pub in hometown Motherwell, near Glasgow, triggered off the spat.

The woman left, but the situation turned ugly when Pam, John and pal Margaret O'Rourke, 35, spotted her later in the street.

A brawl broke out, ending with Pam and the woman being taken to the hospital.

Pam - who had an assault conviction and was on bail - was treated for a broken arm, then locked up. She now faces a sentence of four months in jail.

"We couldn't wait to get back to the hotel for our first night. I couldn't believe I ended up in a cell in a bloodstained dress," The Sun quoted her, as saying.

Pam, her husband and O'Rourke will be sentenced on August 25.

Pam said: "I thought it'd be a night I'd never forget and I suppose it turned out that way."
