Zaheer, Harbhajan all set to make comeback into ODI team

By Staff

Mumbai, Aug 6 (UNI) Left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh are all set to make a comeback into the India ODI team, which will play five one-dayers against Sri Lanka, when selectors meet here tomorrow to select the team.

India will play five one-day in the Emerald Isles from August 18 to 29 after completion of the on going three Test match series.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is also all set to come back as the captain of the India team after sitting out of the Test series, citing fatigue as the reason.

It is not known whether the selectors are likely to select a 15-member or a 16-member squad.

However, sources said if there are sixteen players in the team, the selectors are likely to pick two wicket-keepers. If they pick only 15, Dhoni will be the only wicket-keeper and that will make eight batsmen, including the Indian captain and seven bowlers.

Sachin Tendulkar along with Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, who has been declared fit for selection, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, are all certainties in the team.

The last batting place will be a toss-up between Yousuf Pathan and Robin Uthappa. In the bowling department, the selectors will take a call on whether to induct five pacers and two spinners in the line-up or four pacers and three spinners.

Zaheer and Ishant Sharma are certainties and the rest of the slots, will be decided among R P Singh, Munaf Patel and Ifran Pathan. Sreesanth who has also been declared fit for the series could also figure in the discussion.

In the spin department, Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha are going to make the cut and if the selectors decide to have a third spinner, Piyush Chawla has a bright chance to be picked.
