Shimoga, Karnataka, Aug 6 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today reiterated that the 4000 MW Ultra Mega Power Project at Tadadi in Uttara Kannada district was necessary for fulfilling the power requirements of the State.

Talking to reporters at Shikaripur after offering 'pooja' to Anjanapur Reservoir this morning, Mr Yeddyurappa said the government understood the concern of the Uttara Kannada people. However, power was essential for the State's development.

He said he would convince pontiffs, environmentalists and public on the importance of the project.

Hesaid the government would take appropriate measures to provide tight security to all the reservoirs in the state with immediate effect.

On Hogenakkal issue Mr Yeddyurappa urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to intervene and solve the problem amicably.

The Chief Minister blamed the UPA Government at the Centre for slow progress of the irrigation projects in the State.

He said a Cabinet Committee will be constituted on implementation of government programmes.
