Mysore, Aug 6 (UNI) Members of Karnataka State Sugar cane Growers Association have decided to hold a day-long dharna in front of Rajbhavan on August 8 to press for announcement of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for sugar cane for the year 2008-09, Association President Karabur Shantakumar said today.
Talking to newsmen here, he alleged that the sugar factories are violating the government order by not paying Rs 160 per ton additional support price announced and unnecessarily delaying the beginning of the crushing.
Mr Kumar said that hundreds of farmers from all parts of the State are expected to participate in the dharna.
Taking strong exception to the State government's move to install meters for irrigation pump sets, Mr Kumar said the government should announce how many hours power supply would be provided for the pumpsets upto 10 hp for which free power supply was announced.
