Raipur, Aug 6 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Planning and Congress party's Chhattisgarh incharge V Narayan Sami today alleged irregularities in the implementation of the National Employment Guarantee Scheme and demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.
Talking to reporters here after the meeting of state Congress coordination committee, Mr Sami said, ''Huge corruption has taken place in the NREGS scheme and only a handful of people were being benefited instead of common people.'' He said he would meet the Prime Minister soon and demand a CBI inquiry into the matter.
Mr Sami said the Centre had tried to get social audit of amount sent to the state for development schemes done by an independent agency. However, the state government denied it.
The meeting discussed about strategy for upcoming state assembly elections, basis of selecting candidates and making people aware of misdeeds of the government.
Party treasurer Motilal Vora, Congress Party executive members Ajit Jogi and Mahsina Kidwai were also present in the meeting.
Senior party leaders would take out 'yatras' at different places in all the four directions in two weeks to build atmosphere against the government. Later, Congress President Sonia Gandhi would visit the state.
The process of selecting candidates would begin soon and a list of candidates would be released soon.
