My absence won't be a set back for India: Kirsten

By Staff

Colombo, Aug 6 (UNI) Expressing confidence that Team India will continue with their second Test performance to claim the three-match series, coach Gary Kirsten today said his absence will not be a set back for the team as Anil Kumble's boys are focussed on the task at hand.

''The players are aware what they need to do and they are right on track in terms of preparations. The important thing is the awareness of the situation. They know they have an opportunity to win the series,'' the coach said before flying to South Africa last night to attend to his critically ill mother.

''Every player in the team is aware that if he is not fully focussed for the next Test it could affect the team's performance.'' However, the former South African opener said he has complete faith in captain Anil Kumble' ability to lead the team in his absence and guide them as well.

Speaking about the Galle Test, Kirsten said the team's performance was heartening.

''We were happy with the team's response as they lifted their performance by at least 20 per cent in Galle,'' he added.
