Chennai, Aug 6 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) Treasurer and former Union Minister M Kannappan is all set to be elected unopposed as the Presidium Chairman of the party.
Mr Kannappan was the lone leader to file nomination for the post, when nominations for the posts of Presidium Chairman, Treasurer and Deputy General Secretary were opned today.
Mr Kannappan would be formally declared unopposed at the party general council meeting, to be held here on August 16, party sources said.
The post fell vacant after rebel MP, L Ganesan was removed from the post and later expelled from the party, along with Mr Gingee N Ramachandran, when they voted in favour of the trust-vote, moved by the Congress led UPA government, defying party whip.
''Thanjai'' Durai Balakrishnan and Villupuram District Secretary Masilamani are to be elected unopposd as Treasurer and Deputy General Secretary of the party, respectively as they were lone candidates for the two posts. They would be declared elected on August 16.
The post of Deputy General Secretary became vacant after Mr Ramachandran was removed from the post for ''anti-party activity'' and later expelled for voting in favour of the trust-vote, defying party whip.
On reports that Mr Ganesan and Mr Ramachandran would be joining DMK, along with one lakh supporters, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko said ''there are not even ten supporters with them''.
