Mumbai, Aug 6 (UNI) A 39-year-old South Indian film distributor and his wife allegedly poisoned their three children and then committed suicide at Mulund, an eastern suburb, early today.
Babu Ishwar Tewar and his wife Amuri (33) first allegedly administered 'Poison' to their three children -- Vankatesh (10), Mani (8) and Mahalaxmi (5). Then, they committed suicide by hanging themselves from a ceiling fan in their flat at Mulund early today, police said here.
Their bodies were found by Babu's brother, Armogam, when he returned home from work at around 0030 hours. He informed the police about the incident.
He told police that his brother was depressed for last one-and-half years as he was suffering from deadly diseases.
Frustrated, he might have taken this extreme step, Armogam observed.
In another incident, a newly married couple attempted to commit suicide by setting themselves on fire as they were living seperately after the groom's parents allegedly objected to their marriage.
Rahul Tomar (25), who was working as engineer with Airtel at the company's Malad branch, had married to Kiran Rathod (25) about a year ago despite objections from his family.
Due to objection by in-laws, Kiran was staying with her parents and working as teacher in the Buldhana district of Maharashtra.
Yesterday, she reached Mumbai by Geetanjali Express to meet Rahul. At around 0000 hours, they met in the parking lot of Rahul's building in western suburb of Malad, where they removed petrol from his motorbike and poured on each other and set themselve ablaze, police said.
The couple suffered 50 to 60 per cent burn injuries and admitted to Bhagwati hospital at Borivali. They were still in a state of unconsciousness, police added.
