Economic blockade blessing in disguise for people of Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 6 (UNI) Economic blockade turned out to be blessing in disguise for the people of Kashmir where hundreds of marriage ceremonies are now being solemnised everyday in a simple way.

Advertisements are appearing daily in almost all local English and Urdu dailies informing relatives and friends about the cancellation of hosting big feasts on the occasion of marriage ceremonies of their sons and daughters.

''We had decided to prepare about six quintals of meat besides two hundred chicken on the occasion of marriage ceremony of my daughter being held tomorrow,'' said Abdul Rashid in the uptown.

Now because of the unpredictable situation, we have decided to prepare just few kgs of meat on the occasion for the bridegroom, he said adding that relatives and other friends have already been informed about the cancellation of the 'dawat.' We will also prepare local vegetables on the occasion, he said.

Similar views were also expressed by others who decided to hold the marriage ceremonies in a simple way.

People in general appreciated the move and demanded that this should continue in future.
