Tewari appointed Special Rapporteur of NHRC, NE Zone
Shillong, Aug 5 (UNI) Mr S K Tewari has been appointed as the Special Rapporteur of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Northeast Zone, NHRC sources said.
''Mr Tewari's functions will be to investigate and inquire into specific complaints as assigned by the Commission, visit jails, police lock-ups and other places of detention, namely Juvenine homes, destitutes' homes, after-care homes, Nari Niketans, probation homes or any other place as and when required in connection with discharge of his duties,'' the sources said.
His other functions include projects/programmes taken up in the states, Union Territories at the instance of the Commission or which have bearing upon human rights issues, liaise with NGOs and other human rights institutions, matters remitted to the NHRC by the Supreme Court, monitoring of action taken by the concerned states and organisations on the specific recommendation given by the Commission, participation in seminars, conferences organised by NHRC and any matter assigned by the Chairperson or Commission.
