Poverty-stricken parents leave children on railway station
Barrackpore, Aug 05 (UNI) Two children were allegedly left behind by their poverty-stricken parents on a railway station, while local people handed over the abandoned minors to the Titagarh police station in North 24 Parganas.
However, police had not yet succeeded in tracing the parents.
The local people, who had handed over the boys - Babai (5) and Tubai (3) - sons of a resident of Sarkar Bagan near Barrackpore railway station, told police that the kids were found crying on the platform yesterday.
The local residents first went to the Nona-Chandanpukur area to trace the parents as the children informed them that their father Rahul Rao was living in a rented house at Nona-Chandanpukur.
However, after all their attempts to find the parents failed, they handed the kids over to the police.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Rahul, along with his family, was compelled to leave his house as he had failed to pay the rent.
Rahul, being a contract painter, had reportedly been suffering from financial hazards.
The kids will be sent to a children's home with the permission of the appropriate court, if their parents are not found, a police officer said.
