Bhubaneswar, Aug 5 (UNI) The Orissa government today substantially increased the ex-gratia amount for the next of kin of police personnel killed during the naxal operation in the state.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made the announcement after reviewing the naxal issues at a high level meeting here.
State Chief Secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy, Home Secretary T K Mishra and Director General of Police G C Nanda were among others present at the meeting.
Mr Patnaik told newspersons that the ex-gratia amount had almost been doubled and would be implemented with retrospective effect from January 2008.
Earlier, the state government provided Rs four lakh as ex-gratia to the police personnel killed in naxalite operation.
The Chief Minister said compensation would also be paid to security personnel who sustained permanent or partial incapaciation during the operation in the naxal-dominated areas.
While the security personnel partially incapacitated would receive Rs two lakh compensation, those permanently incapacitated would get Rs four lakh.
The government also announced to honour the security personnel who lost their lives during the anti-naxal operation with state gallantry award and a cash prize of Rs one lakh.
