New Jathedar vows to uphold traditions of Akal Takht
Amritsar, Aug 5 (UNI) Newly-appointed Jathedar of Akal Takht, Giani Gurbachan Singh today said he would uphold the dignity and honour of the Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhism.
''I will abide by the tenets and traditions of the Akal Takht while discharging my duties,'' he said, while talking to UNI soon after the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) announced his appointment at its executive meeting in Kurukshetra.
Describing himself as a humble 'sewak', Giani Gurbachan Singh said that the Guru had showered his blessings on him. ''I will take all decisions in an impartial manner and for the welfare of the community,'' he added.
Asked to give his opinion on the Sikh-Dera Sacha Sauda conflict, he maintained that after assuming charge of his assignment on Thursday (Aug 7) he would give his opinion.
