Guwahati, Aug 5 (UNI) The Assam unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today questioned the Congress-led state government's sincerity in detection and deportation of Bangladeshi infiltrators from the state.

''The Congress is in power both in the state and at the Centre.

But they have failed to solve the infiltration problem due to their insincerity,'' NCP state president Dhirendra Deb Adhikary said here.

He accused the Congress of protecting the Bangladeshi illegal immigrants for political reasons and using them as their vote bank.

Referring to the case of Md Kammaluddin who was deported last evening, Mr Adhikary said, ''The officials who had issued him certificates and verified his election nomination papers should be punished.'' He also demanded the issue of photo identity cards immediately, based on electrol rolls as on March 25, 1971.
