Kapil urges govt to increase budget for Indian Olympic aspirants

By Staff

Mumbai, Aug 5 (UNI) Indian Cricket League (ICL) players who have been training at Bangalore got a motivational boost from the Chairman of ICL, Kapil Dev's visit here today.

Speaking on the occasion, India's only World Cup winning captain and ICL Chairman, Kapil Dev inspired the boys to remain focused on their goals and not to get deterred by insignificant hindrances.

''Hurdles are a part of every cricketer's life and to overcome them is what champions are made of. I want you all to keep doing what you are best at and that is playing the Game,'' Kapil said.

Kapil took up this occasion to urge the Sports Minister to increase the country's expenditure for the Olympics in building up better sporting facilities so that the country could produce more athletes who could win more medals for India at the Olympics.

While applauding Dhoni for the Khel Ratna award being conferred on him, Kapil said,''India needs many more players like Dhoni and hence to confine cricket in selective quarters would be unjust.'' With the ICL tournament to begin in mid-October, the Chairman of ICL, Kapil Dev stated, ''We will stun the world with high quality cricket from high performance players. Last year we had an amazing display of talent&cricket. Our new season will see more venues, competitive matches with a mix of entertainment. However, our focus will always remain to give the patrons of the game, exciting and thrilling cricket.'' The ICL had roped in SRL Ranbaxy on August 2 to conduct an Anti-Doping workshop at its camp. The camp, while focusing on extreme health and fitness training, under the astute guidance of Jock Campbell-High Performance Director, ICL and Steve Rixon, ICL India coach, has seen in the last nine days, 68 exciting and budding talents of Indian cricket trying to outdo each other as the fittest ICL player.
