New Delhi, Aug 5 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today stayed the conversion of leasehold to freehold flats situated at Satya Niketan (South West Delhi) allotted to those who were rehabilitated from slum clusters.
A bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice S Murlidhar stayed the single bench order which had directed the MCD to allow such conversions.
Lawyer for MCD O P Saxena said the civic body had appealed against the single judge order which had allowed the flats to be converted into leasehold by paying the requisite charges.
MCD's contention is that when they relocate the slum clusters, alternate plots are allotted to rehabilitate them, but it is found that all the plots are sold away and the slums are formed again. It is because of the government's liberal policies that there is no end to slums, Saxena contended.
The bench stayed the conversion of plots to freehold till the outcome of the case.
