Chandigarh, Aug 5 (UNI) Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Dr Raghubir Singh Kadian applauded the role of Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee in '''upholding the dignity and sanctity of the office of Speaker when UPA Government sought the vote of confidence recently in the Parliament.
Dr Kadian was speaking at a meeting convened by Mr Somnath Chatterjee yesterday to brief the delegates and observers attending the 54th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to discuss various issues during the Conference, an official spokesman said.
He said that the meeting was attended by all the Indian delegates, mostly, the Speakers and Presiding Officers from all Legislative Bodies in India.
Dr Kadian said that on the face of the recent trial in the Parliament, Mr Somnath Chatterjee proved that the office of Speaker was above party politics and his belief in action had enhanced the high traditions of the office of Speaker.
The statement of Dr. Kadian was endorsed by all delegates, observers and parliamentarians with thumping of tables.
The spokesman said that almost all speakers of the Indian Legislative bodies in India were attending the 54th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Malaysia which would continue till August 10.
