First ever 'Excellence in Journalism Awards' in Eastern India

Kolkata, Aug 5 (UNI) In order to promote honest and sincere journalism, Shyam Steel Industries Limited (SSIL) has come forward to organise the first ever ''Excellence in Journalism Awards'' in Eastern India.

Announcing this here today, SSIL Director Lalit Beriwala said the award was being organised as a part of their Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) initiatives.

'' These awards have been instituted as a tribute to the profession of journalism which comprises of all the actual newsmakers in the ever-growing media industry. However, they rarely enjoy a moment of glory of their own as the profession demands that they constantly remain in the background while bestowing limelight to the achievers, '' Mr Beriwala observed.

'' We feel that this noble profession deserves to be lauded. These awards are our tribute to this quintessential profession and honour the brilliance of the journalists, who have been responsible for creating a wealth of information and news, '' he maintained.

Mr Beriwala informed that the award would be segregated into seven categories and the prize money for all the awards was Rs 15000, except for the Lifetime Achievement Award which would be Rs 25000.

He said members of the ''Excellence in Journalism Awards Committee, comprising veteran journalists, would shortlist the entries and a panel of eminent judges would further screen those to choose the winner from each category.

The awards ceremony would be held here on September 19, he added.
