New Delhi, Aug 5 (UNI) Charging Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit of criticising Municipal Corporation of Delhi's working due to 'political considerations', BJP leaders in Corporation said despite the negative attitude of the government, MCD has pursued public welfare measures and made major achievements during the last one-and-a-half years of the present regime.
Addressing a joint press conference, Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra, Leader of the MCD House, Subhash Arya and Chairman, Standing Committee, Vijender Gupta said,''the Delhi Chief Minister is needlessly criticising the MCD's working and overlooking its achievements in various field for no rhyme or reason but out of sheer political considerations.
''It is rather surprising that the Chief Minister has been making demeaning statements in media in respect of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. It is high time that she and her government does some honest introspection and analyse its functioning in various fields,'' the leaders said.
''If one looks at the record of the Delhi government, no progress has been made for improving sewage and water services.
The PWD roads are in miserable conditions. The public transport system has nearly collapsed. The BRT corridor has not taken off.
The crime graph is going beyond control. The spate of murders, rape, chain snatching, shooting on motor bike going without any check. The criminals are roving free without fear of law and order agencies,'' they charged.
In contrast, despite the negative attitude and non-supporting attitude of the Delhi government, MCD has earnestly persuade public welfare measures and made major achievements during the last one and a half years of the present regime. Be it property tax, information technology, engineering, health, advertisement, parking or education, MCD has made alround progress and endeavored its best to provide better civic services to more than 150 lakh citizens,'' Ms Mehra said.
She enumerated the various initiatives by the MCD in present BJP regime in areas of property tax collection, health as well as sealing and demolition issues.
''The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has undertaken in hand a number of projects which will give facelift to the city during current financial year. These include construction of ROBs/RUBs at 15 level crossings, construction of conventional type car parking at 24 locations, construction of multi-level car parking at 12 locations, beautification of major entry points to Delhi, electrification in unauthorised colonies, completion of civic Centre, Minto Road, construction of flyover/grade-separator at Rani Jhansi Road and improvement of traffic circulation around Civic Centre,''the MCD leaders said.
