3 minors arrested for extortion in Nagaland
Kohima, Aug 5: The Dimapur police arrested three minor students on charges of extortion and recovered a toy AK 47 rifle and knives from them, official sources said here today.
The minors, aged between 13 to 15 years, were students of Government Higher Secondary School, Nagarjan.
They had extorted some cash and snatched three mobile phones in the Nagarjan area on Saturday. When they returned yesterday, the local youths managed to apprehend one of them as the other two escaped.
The nabbed minor was handed over to the East Police Station, who on interrogation, revealed the names of his three accomplices.
Later, police raided a house in the area and arrested two of his accomplices. The third one, aged 15 years, was absconding.
It is a rare case for the Nagaland police as such accused are kept in Juvenile Homes under the Juvenile Justice Act, but the state has no such arrangement.
