3 minor students arrested for extortion
Kohima, Aug 5 (UNI) The Dimapur police arrested three minor students on charges of extortion and recovered a toy AK-47 rifle and knives from their possession.
Official sources said here today that the minors, aged between 13-15 years, are students of Government Higher Secondary School, Nagarjan.
The boys had extorted some cash and snatched three mobile phones in the Nagarjan area on Saturday. When the boys came again yesterday, the local youths managed to apprehend one of them, but the other two managed to escape.
The nabbed minor was handed over to the East Police Station. On interrogation, he revealed the names of his three accomplices.
Later, police conducted a raid in a house in the area and arrested two of his accomplices, but one of them, aged 15 years, is absconding.
It is a rare case for the Nagaland police as such accused are kept in Juvenile Homes under the Juvenile Justice Act, but the state has no such arrangement.
