Chandigarh, Aug 4 (UNI) On the opening day of the Air Force Hockey Championship today, the Southern Air Command (SAC) team, Western Air Command (WAC) team and the South Western Air Command (SWAC) eemerged winners by beating the Eastern Air Command (EAC), Central Air Command (CAC) and the Training Command (TC) teams respectively.
SAC beat EAC by one goal to nil with Sgt V K Yadav of SAC scoring the lone goal in the 34th minute of the game. In the second match of the day, SWAC beat TC 1-0. Arun Kumar of SWAC scored the winning goal in the 40th minute.
Continuing their good form, WAC beat CAC 3-1 with Satvir Singh scoring two goals in the 18th and the 38th minute respectively. The third goal for WAC was scored by Cpl S Singh in the 53rd minute. The only saving grace for the CAC was the solitary goal by Sqn Ldr Sequira in the 62nd minute.
The last match of the day was being played between the Air Headquarters team and the Maintenance Command (MC) where MC was leading by two goals to nil till half time.
Eight teams are participating in the Championship which is being organised in the city by 3 BRD (3 Base Repair Depot) Air Force. The Champioship will conclude on August 8.
The Championship aims at selecting the Air Force Hockey Team for participating in forthcoming Inter Services Hockey Championship.
