New Delhi, Aug 4: Worried about the stoic resistance from the people of Jammu demanding restoration of allotment of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Sunday, Aug 3 called on her BJP counterpart Rajnath Singh seeking his Party's cooperation in bringing the situation back to normalcy in Jammu region.

BJP sources confirmed Sonia calling Rajnath but gave out very little information about the talks between the two leaders. The Congress is obviously worried about the sustained resistance from the Hindu dominated Jammu region where violence and protests have shown no signs of abating for the last 33 days ever since the state government cancelled the allotment of land to the shrine board under pressure from the fundamentalistforces.

Hundred acres of forest land was alloted to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board for creating infrastructure for Amarnath pilgrims.

Sonia's call to the BJP President comes close on the heels of the meeting between leader of opposition L K Advani and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently where the Amnarnath issue figured prominently.
