Rs 10 lakh cash, gold looted from bank in Punjab
Ferozepur, Aug 4 (UNI) An specified number of robbers looted Rs 10 lakh cash besides gold jewellery worth about Rs 14 lakh from the State Bank of India (SBI), agriculture branch, on Outer Ring road in the town last night, police sources today stated.
According to sources, the robbery came to light when the bank employees came for duty this morning and found the locks on the rear entrance broken. They also found the strong room open and the cash and gold missing.
Police officials who reached the spot stated that the robbers had used gas cylinders to cut through the strong room of the bank.
Bank manager I P Singh said that the gold jewellery kept in the strong room was of farmers who had taken agricultural loans. He claimed that a similar attempt was made last month and the police had been informed.
A case has been registered at the city police station and investigations have begun.
