Canada should develop better ties with India: CIC Report
Mumbai, Aug 4 (UNI) It is time for Canada to develop a sustained and comprehensive relationship with India including on nuclear issues, according to Canadian International Council (CIC) paper.
Emphasising the need to develop warmer ties with India, the paper said Canada can show India, one of the rising giants of the 21st century, that its means business against a host of suitors.
''We have to re-think our nuclear relationship with India, like Australia, France and the UK are currently doing, in light of the bold but faltering Indo-US civilian nuclear agreement,'' said the paper.
''This new course should also include strengthened public diplomacy initiatives, broader science and technology linkages and higher education partnerships with India.'' The report added that Ottawa now had an opportunity to reassess its non-proliferation policies towards India that could revitilise the ''40 years of lukewarm bilateral relations with New Delhi.'' A Canadian business delegation, led by Counsel General, had made a presentation here last week on investment opportunities in Canada.
On offer were mining, agri-based industries, conventional and alternative energy.
