London, Aug 4 : British boxer Amir Khan has been blasted for purchasing a 180mph supercar.
Khan, 21, had bought an Audi R8, which does 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 180mph.
The outrage came from the family of Geoffrey Hatton, who had been mown down by Khan when he jumped a red traffic light. According to them, the younger boxer should not have been allowed to make the 85,000 pounds purchase.
"Khan is just a kid and I don't think he should be driving such a powerful car," Daily Star quoted a member of Mr Hatton's family as saying.
"He has caused a lot of grief and someone who has a responsible nature doesn't go out and buy a car like that," the member added.
Hatton, a father of three, had been struck by Khan's BMW in Bolton two years ago, and he had suffered a shattered leg because of it. He died earlier this year aged 57.
"If he wanted to set a good example and be a role model to other young people Khan would do an advanced training course," Sheila Rainger, from the RAC Foundation, said.
"It is a fantastic car but it does demand higher driving skills," she added.
Earlier this year Khan was fined 1,000 pounds and banned for 42 days for driving at over 140mph on the M62 near Rochdale, Lancs.
