Mumbai, August 3 : People of the Parsi community in Mumbai celebrated Friendship Day by taking out a car rally on Sunday.
Parsi Resource Group, founded by Jimmy Mistry organised the car rally.
It is a group of like-minded people who have taken initiative to chart a bright future for the community.
A total of approximately 200 cars of various makes and over 1000 people participated in this unique car rally.
Deven Bharti, Additional Commissioner of Police Mumbai (Crime Branch) flagged off the car rally.
Danian Tirandaz, a noted television and film actor said that the organizer of this rally praised Jimmy Mistry the organiser of the rally.
"This rally also known as the first friendship rally and is organised by a young man (Jimmy Mistry) with a vision. He visualizes the youngsters especially the Parsis getting together and knowing each other," said Tirandaz.
Jimmy Mistry also launched his election campaign for 'The Bombay Parsi Panchayat' elections with this rally. In his opinion the car rally was one the ways of passing the message of peace on a friendship day.
"Parsi Resource Group has been organizing motorcycle drive for the last two years and it's a good way of getting the community together and passing the message of peace. This time all the people who drove cars and did not have a motorcycle were feeling left out. So we decided to have a drive and not just a motorcycle drive. Had we conducted this rally inside the Mumbai city it would have been too congested and hence we decided to take the drive to Lonavala and come back. It is just the way of passing the message of peace on a friendship day," said Jimmy.
The participants flashed their latest vintage and custom-made cars.
"It's (Parsi community) a small community as you know. This rally is for a good cause of propagating friendship among all the Parsis people. So we will make more friends as we go along and we hope to have a good time," said Beharam.
Friendship Day has become popular amongst the youth of the country in recent times and is celebrated on the first Sunday of August each year.
