Srinagar, Jammu Aug 2 (UNI) Over 30 tents erected at Baltal base camp for Amarnath pilgrims today washed away in heavy rains and cloud-burst as hundreds of yatris were forced to pass night in frosty weather condition, sources said.
''There has been report of heavy rains at Baltal but the detail of exact damage has yet not received'' a senior official with Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) told UNI.
A pilgrim, however, disclosed that about 30 to 35 tents at Baltal had washed away in cloud-burst and about 300 odd yatris were subjected to extreme inconvenience due to cold and rains at the base camp.
''Had there been some good construction for yatris, no one would have been sufferer today,'' the pilgrim said.
The SASB official said 1,108 pilgrims had darshans of Shiva Lingam at Amarnath cave shrine.
The yatra has sharply decline after unrest in Jammu against the state government for revoking the forest land diverted to the SASB for construction of prefabricated temporary structures for the Amarnath pilgrims at Baltal.
