Kancheepuram, August 3 (UNI) Kancheepuram District Fast Track Court awarded a six-year rigorous imprisonment to a notorius rowdy today for a murdering a village munsif and an attack on policemen.
Police said the 24-year-old Sadiq Basha, was earlier awarded life-sentence for murdering a taxi driver. When he was released on bail, he took revenge on the village munsif Venugopal by stabbing him to death for giving evidence against him in the murder case during the cross-examination at the court.
Acting on a tip-off that the accused was hiding at Railway-road, a police team rushed to the spot to nab him. Sadiq, infuriated by the presence of cops, assaulted some of them, before the police could manage to arrest him.
The Judge R Dhandapani has awarded a three-year rigorous imprisonment for murdering Mr Venugopal and another three years to Sadiq for assauling the policemen.
The accused was lodged at Puzhal Central Prison in the city, police added.
