Contraband recovered from Shahabuddins cell in Siwan jail

Siwan, Aug 3 (UNI) Contraband articles were seized from a cell where incarcerated RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin is lodged in Siwan jail.

District Magistrate Vandana Preyasi and Superintendent of Police Umesh Kumar, leading a team of security personnel, had raided the cell at the wee hours today following a threat given to assistant jailer Ramadhar Singh by the RJD MP.

The official sources said that 37 mobile phones and as many chargers were recovered from the cell of Shahabuddin, who is facing trial in several criminal cases and had been convicted in connection with the charges of kidnapping and murder.

Besides these 37 mobile phones, 10 additional sim cards, 19 mobile phone chargers, seven mobile batteries, a fan, eight daggers, a hunter, 15 telephone diaries, a head-phone, seven foreign brand perfumes, letter heads of some public representatives, some documents and pocket as well as regular diaries were recovered during the raid which lasted some four-and-half hours till 0900 hrs.

According to the sources, Shahabuddin had threatened the assistant jailer with dire consequences yesterday. A case in this connection was also registered at Muffasil police station against the MP, who had already been awarded with imprisonment ranging from one year to life sentence.

Ms Preyasi said in order to monitor the activities inside the jail and for security reasons, close circuit TVs would be installed in all cells of the jail by September 15.

Several hardcore criminals inclduing Rajkumar, Rais Khan, Jitendra Swami (son of a former MLA) and others were lodged in Siwan jail.
